Privacy Policy
Effective date: June 16, 2026 · Last updated: June 16, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how ChompChart (“ChompChart,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) handles information in connection with the ChompChart iOS app (the “App”). We built ChompChart to be private by design: your food logs live on your device and in your personal iCloud, and we collect as little as possible.
1. Privacy at a glance
- Your food logs stay on your device and sync only through your own iCloud account. We don’t keep a copy.
- Apple Health data is never sold and is never used for advertising. It stays on your device unless you explicitly grant access.
- Meal photos and voice recordings are sent to our processing service only to generate a nutrition estimate, and are never used to train AI models.
- We don’t sell your personal information to anyone, ever.
2. Food logs & on-device data
The foods you log, your meals, your editable calorie and macro goals, and your tracking history are stored locally on your device using Apple’s on-device storage. If you have iCloud enabled, this data may sync across your own Apple devices through your private iCloud account, which is governed by Apple’s Privacy Policy. We do not operate a server-side copy of your food diary and cannot read it.
3. Apple Health (HealthKit)
With your explicit permission, ChompChart integrates with Apple Health (HealthKit). You control each permission individually in the App or in the Health app at any time.
Data we read
- Steps
- Workouts
- Active energy (calories burned)
We read this data to give you a complete daily picture (for example, energy in versus energy out). HealthKit data is processed on your device.
Data we write
- Dietary energy (calories consumed)
- Macronutrients you log (protein, carbohydrates, and fat)
We write the nutrition you log back to Apple Health so your information stays in one place.
In accordance with Apple’s requirements, we never use HealthKit data for advertising or marketing, never sell it, and never share it with third parties. We do not use HealthKit data for any purpose other than the health and fitness features described here.
4. AI photo & voice logging (ChompChart Plus)
If you use the optional AI logging features, the relevant content is sent securely to Cloudflare Workers AI, our processing provider, solely to generate a nutrition estimate:
- AI photo logging: the meal photo you capture is transmitted for analysis to identify foods and estimate macros.
- AI voice logging: the audio you record is transmitted to be transcribed and parsed into foods and macros.
This content is processed only to return your estimate and is not used to train AI models. We do not use your photos or audio for advertising. The resulting estimate is returned to your device, where you can review and edit it before logging. For more on how this provider handles data, see Cloudflare’s Privacy Policy.
You can use ChompChart’s free features without ever using AI photo or voice logging.
5. Nutrition data sources
When you scan a barcode or search for a food, the App queries nutrition databases through our service:
- Open Food Facts — an open product database. Nutrition data is © Open Food Facts contributors and is licensed under the Open Database License (ODbL).
- USDA FoodData Central — public-domain generic and whole-food data from the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
These lookups send the barcode or search term you enter to retrieve a match. They do not include your identity or your food diary.
6. Analytics & diagnostics
We aim to collect minimal or no analytics. Where we use diagnostics, they are limited to aggregated, non-identifying information used to keep the App stable and improve reliability (for example, crash reports). Apple may also provide aggregate, anonymized App Analytics if you have opted in at the device level; this is governed by Apple’s policies. We do not use third-party advertising trackers.
Note for the developer: confirm your final analytics posture here (none, Apple App Analytics only, or a named privacy-respecting provider) and update this section and your App Store privacy “nutrition label” accordingly before release.
7. Subscriptions & payments
ChompChart Plus is sold as an auto-renewing subscription through Apple’s App Store. Purchases and renewals are handled entirely by Apple; we do not receive or store your payment card details. Apple provides us with limited, non-identifying subscription status so the App can unlock Plus features. See Terms of Use and Apple’s Privacy Policy.
8. How we share information
We do not sell your personal information. We share information only in these limited cases:
- Service providers who process data on our behalf to deliver features you use (for example, Cloudflare Workers AI for AI estimates, and our nutrition lookup service), under contractual confidentiality obligations.
- Apple, for iCloud sync, HealthKit, and App Store subscriptions, as described above.
- Legal compliance, if required by law, regulation, or valid legal process, or to protect rights and safety.
- Business transfers, if ChompChart is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, subject to this policy.
9. Data retention
Your food logs and goals remain on your device and in your iCloud until you delete them. Content sent for AI processing is retained only as long as needed to return your estimate and is not stored for training. Cached nutrition lookups are retained to improve performance and do not identify you.
10. Your choices & deletion
- Access your data: your diary lives on your device and in your own iCloud — open any entry in the App to view or edit it. The nutrition and weight you log are also written to Apple Health, which can export your data from the Health app.
- Delete your data: delete individual entries in the App, or delete everything at once via Settings → Account → Delete Account, which erases your data from the device and your iCloud. You can also remove all App data by deleting the App and clearing its iCloud data in your device’s settings.
- Revoke Health access: manage HealthKit permissions any time in the Health app under Sharing.
- Manage subscriptions: see Support for how to cancel via the App Store.
- Privacy requests: depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete personal information. Contact us using the details below and we will respond as required by applicable law.
11. Children’s privacy
ChompChart is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your jurisdiction), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us information, please contact us and we will take appropriate steps to delete it. ChompChart is intended for general audiences and is not a substitute for professional or pediatric nutritional guidance.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date above and, where appropriate, provide additional notice in the App. Your continued use of the App after changes take effect means you accept the updated policy.
